Josef Berghofer, the umpteenth generation of pumpkin farmers, decided years ago to refine his natural products himself and turn his pumpkin seeds into other delicacies, such as snack seeds, in addition to pumpkin seed oil. Of course, he was not the only one with this idea, as many people have been turning to nibble seeds with a variety of flavors in recent years, and many of these seeds were refined on Josef Berghofer’s farm and then found their way back into farm stores and taverns as well as the retail trade.
They were and are sold there under the name of the respective farm producers. As the demand for refining continued to grow, Josef Berghofer decided not only to expand the refinery into a farm – a combination of farm and factory – but also to use new processes to make his own nibble kernels even tastier.
His idea: roast the kernels before coating! Why: Roasted simply tastes better! This is what distinguishes Berghofer’s Styrian gourmet nibble kernels from conventional products. He now markets these Styrian gourmet kernels under his own name. But he will also continue to be there as a service provider for his direct farmers who want to have their pumpkin seeds processed in his farm.
